Translation Rates

I charge based on the number of Japanese characters to be translated into English, or the number of English words to be translated into Japanese.

The rate for Japanese-English translation is 3,000 yen per page (consists of 400 Japanese characters, 7.5 yen per character) without proofreading.
This basic package is suitable for in house documents with limited circulation. The translation does not go through an additional native check proofreading step. However, I try to deliver relevant quality in translation. It can be a reasonable option for some clients because it is less expensive.

The rate for Japanese-English translation is 4,000 yen per page (consists of 400 Japanese characters, 10 yen per character) with proofreading.
This premium package is suitable for publication that represents client’s corporate image. It makes sense to arrange a final pass by language-sensitive native speaker to double-check grammar, syntax, punctuation and style before going to clients.

The rate for English-Japanese translation (basic package) is 3,000 yen per page (consists of 200 words, 15 yen per word).

* Please note that a transaction fee is applied to clients who choose PayPal as a method of payment. The fee is 3.6% of the translation charge + 40 yen.
e.g. 3,000 yen (translation charge) + 108 yen (3,000x0.036) + 40 yen = 3,148 yen

There may be a premium for rush job or jobs involving considerable research or complex formatting. I can give you a free estimate of the cost of a translation, but first I will need to see the document of at least a few sample pages.

The time required will depend on the length of the text, its difficulty and my existing workload. As a very rough guide, a figure of 10 pages (400 Japanese characters or 200 words per page) a day is a reasonable expectation. However, I would appreciate if you allow me time to resolve any queries as well as time to revise and polish the draft and format it according to your requirements.

The more planning and preparation that goes into a translation task and the more you cooperate with me, the better the outcome is likely to be.
