Advantages of Working with Translator Directly

Working with a translator directly has several advantages over working through an intermediary, including a generally lower cost and greater direct input into the translation process.

For some jobs you might need to employ a translation firm that can offer additional services and quality control and that has the facilities to provide camera-ready artwork and can handle large volumes, tight deadlines and complex and unusual subjects.

On the other hand, most translation companies rely on freelance translators. You should also ask their qualifications and experience when choosing an agency. In the face of downward pressure on prices, many translation companies have resorted to contracting with freelance translators who are still studying. In such cases, they are often paid very meager wages for their services because their purpose is to seek translation opportunities. The results are glaring in the final translation.

Translation companies charge a commission on top of the amount paid to the translator, proofreader, editor, etc., so they are usually more expensive than working with a translator directly.
